The Following Preliminary Information is Being Released by the Illinois State Police District 13
WHAT: Two-Vehicle Fatal Traffic Crash
WHERE: Broadway Street at James Street, Steeleville, IL, Randolph County
WHEN: April 22, 2022 at approximately 1:00 p.m.
VEHICLES: Vehicle 1 - 2022 Silver Chevrolet Silverado
Vehicle 2 - 2013 Black Harley Davidson Motorcycle
DRIVERS: Vehicle 1 - Nicholas T. Cook, 34-year-old male of Du Quoin, IL – Transported by ambulance to an area hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
Vehicle 2 - Dakota Morrison, a 26-year-old male from Chester, IL – Deceased
PASSENGER: Vehicle 2 - Diane M. Gilmer, a 31-year-old female from Steeleville, IL - Deceased
PRELIMINARY: A preliminary investigation indicates the following occurred: Vehicle 1 was traveling eastbound on Broadway Street near James Street in Steeleville, IL. Vehicle 2 was at the stop sign on James Street, at the intersection with Broadway Street. For an unknown reason, Vehicle 1 crossed the westbound lane and struck vehicle 2 on James Street. Cook (driver of vehicle 1) was transported by ambulance to an area hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Morrison (driver of vehicle 2) was pronounced deceased on scene. Gilmer (passenger of vehicle 2) was transported by ambulance to an area hospital where she succumbed to her injuries. The roadway was shut down for approximately three hours for the investigation. No further information will be disseminated.
All subjects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
