Dáithí McCann - Fundraising Campaign

Donation protected
Hello, we've set up this GoFundMe to help out our nephew Dáithí and his parents, Bronagh and Caolán.

*Update*
After months of guesswork and invasive testing, we received the diagnosis that Dáithí has Wiedemann Steiner syndrome, a disorder that affects less than 1,000 individuals globally. You can find out more about it here: WSS site

The diagnosis has left his parents shocked and overwhelmed. It means that Dáithí's future is very uncertain but your contribution is going a long way to help him. Please feel free to continue to share the link on social media wherever you can.
*End of Update*

Unfortunately, despite being born on Aug 5th 2022, Dáithí still hasn't been home yet. He lost a kidney soon after birth and his second kidney is also under threat. Less than 1% of babies are born with such a complex range of renal issues and failures. None of his systems are functioning correctly; in short his right kidney didn't work, his left is failing, and his bladder also doesn't contract. To complicate it further, Dáithí has reflux in his remaining kidney. He had a ureterostomy surgery to help relieve the pressure. His stoma has been successful & will hopefully delay his need for dialysis before he is big enough for his kidney transplant. Dáithí will need multiple surgeries throughout his lifetime on both his bladder and renal system. These health issues have caused serious feeding complications, with Dáithí losing weight on a weekly basis and being returned to a PEG feeding system. With the PEG system, he'll be fed directly into his jejunum as he's not able to tolerate food in his stomach. This will be done after Christmas.

The family have been lucky enough and are eternally grateful to be able to avail of the Hugh's House programme, which allows them to stay closer to Temple Street Hospital, however significant travel and associated expenses are still involved with taking care of their first child, Clódagh. Unfortunately Dáithí will still be in hospital full time when Bronagh's maternity leave is up

Money raised through this campaign will be used to help cover the likes of loss of income, medical expenses, travel expenses, and looking after Clódagh.

Any donation is welcome and very much appreciated in this difficult time for the family, or if you can't donate; simply share the campaign with others, it would be a great help.
