Daisy the wonder pig needs surgery

This is Daisy. She is a 3-year-old mini pig. She fractured her scapula and she needs surgery. It turns out that she has a genetic disorder that caused her shoulder joints to develop incorrectly resulting in a risk of fractures such as this one.

She has undergone surgery to repair her fracture but it had to be stopped before they could do her other shoulder due to low blood pressure. The other shoulder will need to be done because it’s not a matter of if she breaks the other side but when.

Her fracture is repaired thanks to the amazing doctors and vet techs at Tufts Large Animal Hospital. But she still needs a second operation on the other side to make sure she doesn’t have to go through this again.

Daisy is currently in training to become a therapy pig. She is currently working on the prerequisites to enroll in the American Mini Pig Association’s (AMPA) therapy pig training program.

My name is Nate. I am a Licensed Mental Health Therapist I work with student at a Deaf Residential Treatment Program for kids with Trauma. I also work as the Framingham Parks and Rec Special Needs Director doing therapeutic and accessible recreation.

Anyone who knows me knows how much I give back to my students, my clients, my community. And that I am more comfortable giving than asking for money. I am not the kind of person who would use GoFundMe for myself. But my wife and I fell in love with this little pig who has had a hard transition from her former home.

She was rescued to Unity Farm Sanctuary in Sherborn. It became clear to the amazing staff that she was not going to be safe with the bigger pigs and she was terrified being alone in the barn. They quickly brought her to a home setting and began looking for proper home.

We are in the process of making that happen and I think she will be a big part of the good we are trying to do in this world. So I’m breaking down and asking for help.
