Hi my name is Charlie,
My Nan recently lost her husband and the family came together to get her some company. The cutest little puppy Daisy became available she came into my Nan’s life and she is definitely great company, keeping Nan busy causing chaos and keeping my Nan on her toes. She really is beginning to change things for the better.
we don’t know what happened, Daisy went into the garden doing her usual 6-10 laps of the garden and started screaming and hobbling back indoors.
My Nan could see and hear she was in some discomfort and did no other than call the vet’s
we have since learned this evening from the vet’s that Daisy is still waking up from her sedation but has been given opioid and anti-inflammatory pain relief to manage her pain. The xrays have shown a medial humeral condylar fracture of the forelimb. There are no obvious fissures visible or evidence of a bilateral Y fracture at the moment which is good news but the elbow does need surgical repair to stabilise and allow the best possible outcome.
Surgical repair involves a plate and a screw to stabilise the joint, this will allow the joint to be used and whilst there is always going to be an increased likelihood of her developing osetearthritis in this joint the aim of surgery would be to provide a normal pain free limb for as much of her life as possible-hopefully all of it. The complications we discussed included though that the growth plates may have been damaged and may lead to limb deformity or abnormal growth as she develops. There is nothing we can do to assess if this has happened so it is just something we need to be aware of.
Surgery including today xrays and overnight care will come in at £6830, this estimate includes 2 post op checks once she is discharged but does not include xrays that would be recommended at 8weeks post surgery.
My nan has already paid £800 for the consultation fee, X-rays, meds and an over night stay but she cannot find £7000 she is on a pension and the vets will not allow a payment plan. We have called other vets and charities to be told we’re not in the right catchment areas. The insurance my nan took out doesn’t seem to cover breaks or fractures only a puppy plan yearly injections, health checks, de wormers and flee treatment.
i feel the vets are very pushy and have already spoken about having Daisy put to sleep if the funds cannot be found. My nan is gutted and I can’t think of any other way to support than a go fund me page.
