Dahlilas Hairloss battle
WHO: Dahlila Rose Bennett, 20 of Eagle Point, ORWHY: Aplastic Anemia
-It is a condition that occurs when your body stops producing enough new blood cells. A rare and serious condition, aplastic anemia can develop at any age. Aplastic anemia may occur suddenly, or it can occur slowly and get worse over a long period of time. Treatment for aplastic anemia may include medications, blood transfusions or a stem cell transplant, also known as a bone marrow transplant.
**Once employed at her local hospital Dahlila found herself a patient after a long weekend of feeling faint dizzy and riddled of anxiety.
She drove herself to the hospital where they found she was running on a small amount of blood no one her size should be functioning at, comma levels. Platelets: 1,600 and hemoglobins: 3.4. She received 4 bags of blood and 4 bags of platelets and fluids immediately. When discharged after multiple tests for cancer, which included a biopsy of bone marrow from her lower spine, her numbers looked good platelets: 153,000 and hemoglobins: 9.3. Unfortunately, it didn’t last!
**Dahlila fought a hard battle of blood and platelet transfusions locally at the RRMC Cancer Center in hopes to kick start her blood cell count. Though she got her numbers balanced they would shortly plunge thereafter. Dahlila did this 2-3x a week for a few short months depending on her fatigue and faintness. It was decided she would need to proceed up North at OSHU for a bone marrow transplant to help her body produce blood cells on its own. Who better to donate than her own flesh and blood?! Her siblings were tested to see who was a Perfect DNA match. Though praying it would be her twin Delanie the doctors told her it would likely be a brother who matched her, and they were right ! The first two brothers tested were possitive matches Zakk and Tristen. They then had to do a blood test to see who would be able to donate at a high success rate and the luckily Superman was Tristen. O-negative, perfect universal donor. The ball rolled quite fast and both were in Portland undergoing the transplant in a blink of an eye. While Dahlila faced mandatory chemo and isolation, Tristen went under the knife , bravely I might add. Doctors were able to extract bone marrow successfully and transfer via IV into Dahlila. We are now playing a waiting game in the OHSU Bone Marrow unit to see if Dahlilas body accepts. Her blood once A+ is now a rare O- negative thanks to her brother! She awaits any infection or allergic reactions to his marrow.
Dahlilas blood count has skyrocketed 10x her previous numbers (virtually 0) to an average level and is balancing. She has life and feels like she is a completely different person since 1 year ago!
Delaine, her twin, is hanging hospital bed side keeping her calm and collective while the most challenging effects of chemo therapy have begun, complete hair loss.
CAUSE: Autoimmune Disorder - unknown
WHY A GOFUND ME: Living Costs
-Dahlila is blessed with a strong support system from her parents. While living and maintaining their house in Eagle Point, OR they are renting a place for Dahlila to stay in Portland, OR (4 hours North) as it is mandatory to stay local 3 months after a bone marrow transplant. They are working extra hard to be her support but slowly is taking a toll on their daily living as well. She will have slight freedom from the hospital but it comes with responsibility of providing for her own food, hygiene feminine products, head scarves and wraps (hair loss) and any other essential daily living products. She had to pump herself with poison she once contemplated, and is interested and hopeful in living an organic lifestyle, praying for the opportunity to replenish her body with only what it NEEDS.
* we, her family would like to give her the financial freedom to be able to fuel her body with food that has potential to help heal it. To maintain long term mandatory medications. To provide products that will moisture her skin , nails and hair to help them grow back healthy and strong. To give her freedom to grieve and cope and plan to help others like herself while not having to worrying to rush back to work to pay for her car, gas, phone and other stressful priorities, that her body may not be ready to handle. Dahlila had to give up her first apartment, she was so excited and proud to have for a short while before falling very anemic.
** This GoFund me is to raise money to save her. Emotionally, physically and Mentally !
WHEN: Jan 2018 - ??
The bone marrow has successfully been transferred mid February. She gets to move into her Portland duplex the beginning of March, where she waits 3 months to insure a healthy take before coming home to Eagle Point, OR. She will then be on a long term medication regimen for a year and then re-evaluate the need for them. She can potentially be dealing with this issue short term or the rest of her life. She is literally moving day by day at this point and just blessed to still be part of her loving families lives.
*Thank you for your donations whether financially, spiritually or by sharing this for someone else to have the chance to do the same !
