Dahlia's Transition Fund

I've spent a long time being ashamed of my identity as a trans woman. I did my best not to make too much noise. I put effort into fitting in as neatly as I could. For some of my friends reading this, this will be the first time I have ever acknowledged my transition. But with what's going on in the world to Black women, trans people and especially Black trans women, there is no better time for me to finally walk in my truth.

I am the only daughter of a single Caribbean immigrant mother and we depend on each other immensely. I am responsible for paying our bills. Those responsibilities added to the debt I've amassed from college student loans have made it difficult for me to put any funds towards medically transitioning.  I lost my already limited insurance soon after COVID-19 hit along with my job as an agency temp. My dreams seemed further away than ever.

I'm not used to asking for help. I went back in forth in my own head for months since losing my job about it. But thinking about how vulnerable people like me are in the world got me to think more about my own mortality. I don't want to keep living in fear and feeling like I'm less than anyone else. I want to continue to provide for my small family without continuing to put my transition goals on hold.

All donations will go toward gender affirming surgeries to alleviate my dysphoria so I can live my life to the fullest. Thank you so much for reading this. Every donation or share means a lot to me,
