Hi I’m Dahab, a Somali trans man and artist. My work often centres on Somali heritage and queer life but this page is about something much more personal: I’m asking for support in raising funds for my top surgery. Initially I tried to do this anonymously out of fear or because I didn't want to embarrass anyone. But ultimately this is a vital part of my transition and my ability to live freely in my body, and I need to be free more than I can afford to be safe.

To avoid the UK's long waiting lists, I've made the decision to have my surgery abroad. This allows me to access the care I need at a significantly lower cost.

My funding goal will cover:

Surgery Fee: £6,000

Flights: £1,000 (for myself and a support person)

Accommodation £400: A safe, recovery-friendly Airbnb for two weeks

Gender-affirming care is essential for my mental, emotional, and physical well-being. This surgery is really about being able to live without fear.
