Dad's Thyroid Cancer Treatment

Hello! Thank you for taking the time to visit and read this! My name is Mia, and I'm raising money on behalf of my dad (Quintin Vargas) for the treatment of his thyroid cancer.

Late last year, my dad started to experience mild pain and swelling in his neck and throat. The pain continued for about a week (exacerbated especially while eating and drinking) before my mom convinced him to go to the ER. The doctors had a CT scan taken, after which they told him that there was a tumor in his thyroid causing swelling to his lymph nodes. A biopsy of the tumor confirmed malignancy.

Thankfully, we have been assured that thyroid cancer is not typically fatal!! In many cases, if the tumor is small enough, it may even be removed without having to remove the thyroid. In my dad's case, the tumor is too large to remove on its own. He will be needing a full thyroidectomy to stop the pain he's experiencing and remove the cancer.

On March 3rd, my parents will be driving 6 hours into Denver, CO for a consultation. The surgery is to be scheduled for sometime in mid-March. The estimated cost for a thyroidectomy in the region of Denver is $14,520, which is soooo so much more than my parents will be able to afford out of pocket. The funds raised here will go towards that estimate (to be updated after the consultation!!), and towards travel and lodging expenses during his 1-2 week recovery period.
