Dads Medical Bills and Help After Quadruple Bypass

Main picture from my 18th Birthday (2004). -- Will add pictures in updates.

My name is Jonathan Manning and I am making this GoFundMe for my dad, Gary. Who is my dad? He's the father of 9 kids and husband to our mother of 49 years (Almost 50 years!) and "Pop-pop" to his 10 grand kids (11 coming soon). Our dad is a US Navy veteran (Corpsman) and former LPN. He's 70 years old, retired and enjoys listening to his 50's music, watching Blue Bloods and Hallmark Christmas movies, feeding his birds and squirrels outside and anything to do with trains. In October 2019, he was diagnosed with Vascular Dementia.

On Saturday, July 11, 2020  around 11:30pm, our dad complained of a stabbing headache and minor chest pain. His heart rate and blood pressure were higher than they should be. He was assuming just a panic attack. His bottom lip wouldn't stop shaking, he couldn't hold the glass of water we tried giving him and he just had this "look" on his face. He looked scared. My sister and I knew something was definitely wrong and we convinced him he needed to go to the hospital to get checked. We called 9-1-1 and he was taken to the hospital by ambulance & paramedics. Around 3:30am Sunday morning, my sister sent a text to the family with an update that it was confirmed that dad had a "minor" heart attack and was being admitted but needed further testing. After blood work, multiple EKG's and echo-cardiograms, endoscopy and a cardiac catheter it was determined that our father needed quadruple bypass surgery. His "minor" heart attack just became severe. On Friday, July 17 around 8:00am, our father underwent his operation for quadruple bypass surgery. Surgery was around 4 hours and doctors said it went "beautifully" but his road to recovery is going to be long.

As of typing this right now (Sunday, July 19, 6pm), our father will be in the hospital for up to another 2 weeks (possibly longer) and there's a more than likely chance he'll need to go to a rehabilitation facility before coming home. And we don't know how long he'll need to be there.

Upon coming home he's going to need a new bed, clothes since he's losing weight, a cane or walker and possibly need to build a ramp into the house. Us kids are trying to cover all those right now.

But our biggest concern, medical bills. We have no idea what to expect and no idea what insurance does and/or doesn't cover but our dad is a huge worrier and that's all he was worried about before surgery. Even with us 9 kids, us having our own little families and COVID-19 closing jobs, we can only do so much to help out.

Our dad has no idea this is being made and he'd probably be mad because he doesn't like people knowing what's going on and he doesn't like asking for help. But, we don't know what else to do.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

On behalf of our family and father, THANK YOU!
