A few weeks ago, our family’s world changed in the middle of the night. Our dad went to bed feeling unwell and woke up hours later unable to walk. What we thought might be a stomach bug quickly turned into an emergency. Within hours, he was in the hospital, and doctors confirmed he had suffered multiple strokes, along with serious complications related to his diabetes. Overnight, our strong, steady, dependable dad became someone who needed help to speak, sit, stand, and even lift a cup of water. Since that moment, our lives have revolved around hospital rooms, therapy schedules, medical conversations, and the slow, hopeful work of recovery. By God’s grace, we’ve already seen encouraging progress. My dad is regaining strength, clarity, and determination. Each small victory—standing with help, brushing his teeth on his own, passing a reading test—feels like a miracle to us. We are deeply grateful for the doctors, nurses, and therapists who are walking this road with him. While insurance is covering most of the medical care, my mom is experiencing many unexpected costs that come with having a loved one hospitalized and in rehab far from home. My mom has been staying near the hospital so she can be with my dad every day—advocating for him, encouraging him, and simply being present through long, exhausting days. That means ongoing expenses for lodging, meals, and travel. As we look ahead to my dad’s transition home, we’re also preparing for new needs like mobility equipment, minor home modifications, medications, and extended outpatient care requiring bi-weekly travel. These are the quiet, behind-the-scenes costs that insurance doesn’t cover—but they add up quickly and have a significant impact on our parents who are retired with a fixed income. We are creating this opportunity because there have been so many of you who have asked how you can support our parents, sometimes specifically offering to financially give towards these very things. If you feel led to give, your support will go directly toward helping our mom stay near my dad during his recovery and prepare their home for the road ahead. We are trusting the Lord one day at a time, and we are humbled by the love, kindness, and support already shown to our family. From the bottom of our hearts, thank you for walking this journey with us. — Tyler, Milton, and Collin
