God bless my great ol’ dad! Antonio Francisco Gutierrez. On January 6th of 2017, he came down with an onslaught of symptoms he’d never experienced before. It started slowly at first. He woke up real early as usual, around 5am. His routine before heading to work; prepare a nice hearty breakfast and coffee. Pops always made sure he left mines nice and warm for when I eventually woke up. This fateful morning though, was different. He knocked on my bed room door and when I came to, I saw a confused look on his face. He explained to me that he felt beyond sluggish and it was causing him a lot of effort to move his arms. I immediately sprang into action because I interpreted that as a stroke or heart attack. I asked him to raise his arms and they barely rose above his chest. I ran for the car, scooped him up and jetted to the hospital.
The drive was about 10 minutes, by the time we arrived to the hospital dad could barely walk. I rushed inside to get a wheel chair and assistance. He got processed rather quickly and was immediately subjected to an ECG and MRI. Heart attack and stroke were ruled out but his bodily motion was systematically shutting down from the arms down it seemed. By days end, he was basically in a paralyzed state from the shoulders down. A neurologist was called in. After more test and a cringe worthy spinal tap, it was concluded that my dad was afflicted by a very rare condition named Guillaine-Barre Syndrome. Less than 20 thousand cases a year are reported in the U.S according to Mayo Clinic.
What has ensued since has been nothing short of heart ache and a lingering feeling of helplessness; having to see the strongest man I know rendered motionless at the mercy of men made machines. Despite all the treatments and dedicated medical attention; unfortunately, his condition has worsened. The prognosis is indeed dire. We will continue to keep faith in whatever healing energies are afforded to us. My family and I humbly ask that you help us prepare for what seems to be the inevitable; graciously, with heart and pocket.
We love you dad.
God bless.

Early on June 30th 2019 my great dad transitioned back to the essence. He’s survived by his son Jason and daughter Stephanie. His two grand kids Aniyah and Matheus. We love you and will miss you dearly. Rest in peace pops.
