My dad was a superhero! He was funny, caring and loved us (his family) so much. Literally everyone’s favourite uncle. He worked hard to provide for us until he became unwell in 2014. Following many doctor’s appointments, tests and hospital admissions, my dad was fortunate enough to be placed on the heart transplant list even though he was not considered a candidate initially. The doctors got to know his friendly and endearing nature and his fighting spirit, and decided to give him a chance.
Since the transplant in November 2016, he developed a lot of health complications and had been in and out of hospital. It was often two extremes, some days he was fine, other days he would be admitted to hospital, but he ALWAYS came home. He was finally admitted into hospital on Christmas Eve 2018, but he didn’t come home this time. He passed away with his family around him on New Year’s Day January 2019. He died of congestive cardiac failure and acute kidney failure after a battle with chronic cardiac rejection. Through it all my Dad did not waste that chance that he was given. He continued to reach out to his friends and family to maintain relationships that may have grown distant because of his illness over the years. He spent more time with us, told us he loved us whenever he got a chance, and built memories that we will cherish forevermore.
We watched how hard he fought to stay with us, down to his last breath, he let us know that he didn’t want to leave us, and we didn’t want him to go.
If you’ve ever had to bury a loved one you can understand that dying is VERY expensive. We have received help from some of our family and friends but there is still a lot to cover.
Please help us give our Dad a befitting send off. Any donation would be appreciated.
