Dad's Life with Cancer

On May 2nd of this year, my father, David Mendoza was diagnosed with cancer in his colon and liver of 6 centimeters and a half. He was told he already had Metastasis which is the spread of cancer cells to new areas of the body and that he would only live anywhere from year or two at most.  For those who know my father, they know that he has always been a very happy, funny and loving person.  From the beginning he was told that he did not have very long to live, however, he was determined to take on chemo therapy and fight his cancer. The treatment made my father a different person… although still optimistic he became very sad but mostly worried for his loved ones and what he would leave behind. After several months of treatment he went back to his doctor, only to hear once again, that his cancer was not getting any better and that he was either to continue treatment or enjoy his final time with his loved ones. My father chose to spend this year, if the last, the best he can.

My father, mother and grandmother all live in a rented home, of which they can no longer afford to pay. They do not have any savings and my father has no current job other than uber or assisting in party bartending from time to time.  My mother recently had arm surgery, which has temporarily disabled her and my grandmother who is now living with them, cannot work. My father is not able to “spend his last year the best he can” because he is too worried about his financial situation or what he will leave my family behind with when they currently cannot even afford their own roof. Although, I have tried to help my family the most I can, I also, cannot afford to maintain my daughter and my parents alone.

I was very skeptical to make a gofundme page because my family wanted to try to “work things out” within themselves the best we can. However, seeing the circumstances, there is only so much we can afford. For those who can help, I thank you from the bottom of my heart. I truly hope that my father can enjoy his last years in happiness, not stress.
