My husband, Dr. Kenneth Murdoch is a psychologist who built his career helping people find hope in the face of serious illness. Now, he’s facing a rare and aggressive cancer, nk T Cell lymphoma.
We have two young kids, a baby at home and a four-year-old, and right now we’re trying to keep life as steady as possible for them while everything around us feels uncertain.
He has had to stop working abruptly. I am currently on a reduced income on maternity leave. While we are in the process of arranging benefits and insurance, those supports take time, and they don’t fully replace his income. In the meantime, our regular expenses continue — mortgage, groceries, childcare — and new ones have been added almost overnight: parking at the hospital, travel back and forth for appointments, and the need for extra help so I can be there with him during treatment.
We’re not used to asking for help like this But right now, what we need most is the ability to cover these costs while we navigate the next few months, and to focus our energy where it belongs on his treatment and our family.
Ken is bravely facing his cancer diagnosis, and will be starting treatment at the Cross cancer institute. He is approaching this the same way he has helped others face difficult moments, by finding a way to hold onto a hopeful future, even in the face of uncertainty. He is ready to do the work that this fight requires. #fuckcancer
