On August 19th, just before school started for the new school year, Karina’s husband Jorge was kidnapped after his car broke down. Jorge was traveling from Maryland to West Virginia for work when he ran out of gas and was forced to pull over on the side of the road. A police officer pulled over, and instead of helping Jorge, called ICE. Jorge called Karina during this time and told her he loved her and the kids very much, and that if he didn’t call back in 5 minutes, that would mean he had been detained. This is indeed what happened. He is now being detained in a facility in central Pennsylvania, far from home or help.

Jorge has been in the U.S. for 15 years, working long hours in construction to ensure that Karina and their 4 kids–ages 10, 8, 6, and 4–had everything they needed. The family enjoyed spending time together in the park and going to church on Sundays. Now, Karina is left to try to pick up the emotional and financial pieces of caring for all of them, just as school has started and the kids are adjusting to that change. Please help Karina and her family make this impossible situation a little bit more possible.

El 19 de agosto, justo antes del inicio del nuevo año escolar, Jorge, el esposo de Karina, fue secuestrado tras sufrir una avería en su vehículo. Karina viajaba de Maryland a West Virginia por trabajo cuando se quedó sin gasolina y se vio obligado a detenerse en el arcén de la carretera. Un agente de policía se detuvo y, en lugar de ayudar a Jorge, llamó al ICE.
