Diabetic Alert Dog (D.A.D.) for Dylan

Donation protected
On January 31st, 2018, our entire family's world was turned upside down when my then 3 year old daughter Dylan was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes. In the time since then we have slowly adjusted to our new "normal" - our days revolve around needles and blood sugar logs and insulin and carb counting. Lucky for us, we were able to get Dylan on a CGM (continuous glucose monitor) that tracks her blood sugar and gives us real-time updates - but like any other technology, it isn't perfect. There have been scary moments when the number on the screen was incorrect, and times when Dylan has had hypoglycemic episodes that were severe before her CGM even caught it.

While researching various things about CGM technology online, I came across several stories from families who have a Diabetic Alert Dog (D.A.D.) for their Type 1 child. I had heard of them before but felt skeptical about it at first - but, after seeing the way our non-trained pet cat reacts towards Dylan when she is experiencing hyperglycemia or hypoglycemia, I just knew there was really something to this. Many of these families say their D.A.D. is the best thing that ever happened to their Type 1 child, and I believe it. Diabetes is SCARY, and I would love for my daughter to have a companion to give her comfort and also help keep her safe by alerting us to blood sugar highs and lows.

Diabetic Alert Dogs of America is a company that provides advanced training for a dog that is specifically selected to fit in with your child and family. Since it can take up to a year to find and train and place the dog, they recommended that we go ahead and start raising the funds. Unfortunately, insurance will cover no part of this, and our family will be paying out of pocket.

Based on the amazing support and generosity I've seen from our loved ones during the course of Dylan's T1D journey so far, I know in my heart that crowd funding is the way to go for us. PLEASE, any amount helps, and this will really be a game changer for our family and for Dylan's daily life. These dogs save lives! Help us get one of these amazing animals.
