As many of you know my dad died by suicide earlier this week. He was one of the most incredible people I’ve ever known, he was healer who worked in healthcare my entire life. He adopted me when I was 8 years old but changed my life the day I met him. He was a guy who loved black flag, the cubs and an UNGODLY size cup of coffee. I could go in and on forever about how amazing he is, and I will.
The point being, admist a break-up, recently unemployment and a move I still wanted to honor him in the best way I could figure out. Respecting my dads family’s wishes, we aren’t going to have a funeral service because we couldn’t figure out a way it made sense but after many people reaching out all over the country wanting to honor him and my desire to celebrate him as much as possible I came up with a plan.
I am flying to Iowa to collect my fathers ashes and taking him and a last road trip to see all his friends and celebrate his life. I wanted to call it “Phil and Roni’s last US Tour” and recreate a cross country road trip we took when I was 7 years old. In order to do this I have to raise money because with the grief and cost of moving into a new place this month I cannot afford to fund it on my own. The funds will be used while I’m on the road for gas, lodging and food… you know like basic necessities lol.
Any funds that don’t end up being used for the trip I would like to donate to the American foundation for suicide prevention or any other local suicide prevention organizations.
Anything at all helps and if you are able to donate I’ll send you postcards along the way so you can follow our journey. None of my my healing would be possible with out my friends and community who have already held me with so much love and support that I’m honestly brought to tears by.
Anyways I love you, hold your loved one close and take care of yourselves
