Last week, our dear friend Lora was diagnosed with stage 3 brain cancer. She has a small, but aggressive tumor called an anaplastic astrocytoma. Lora was having a normal day but while getting ready to grab a coffee her right arm went completely numb and she started having trouble with her speech. Her fiancé, Chris, took her to their local hospital. They were transferred to Lutheran Hospital in Ft. Wayne where Lora suffered seizures. Her doctors performed a biopsy which confirmed the cancer diagnosis.
The tumor is located in the region of her brain that controls her speech. She has met with oncologists in Ft. Wayne. She has an appointment with a surgeon in Indianapolis who specializes in this region of the brain. The tumor cannot be completely removed but they are hopeful that they can remove part of it and treat with aggressive chemotherapy and radiation.
Physically she's currently dealing with seizures, numbness and difficulties with her speech. She's feeling afraid but hopeful that the doctor in Indy will give the go ahead for surgery.
Lora will be out of work for the foreseeable future. She and Chris are expecting a lot of time away from home and work. She's currently taking seizure medications that cost over $2,000 a month. Lora's current needs are help with living expenses, her medication, and out of pocket medical costs.
Although a treatment plan hasn't been finalized, I would love it if we could come together to help Lora financially during this time. A cancer diagnosis is hard enough and she shouldn't have to worry about how she's going to stay afloat financially.
I will update as soon as I have more information available from Lora.
