My big brother, Kuya Ryan, also known as 'Caberts' to his friends, classmates and batchmates, is going through the toughest time of his life. After a motorcycle accident last December 2024, his spinal injury worsened and led to complications during his hospital stay which required an urgent private hospital transfer for specialised care and management from multiple Medical Consultants / Specialists and a prolonged hospital admission.
Thanks to initial generous donations and help from family and friends, our mother/Mama was able to settle his hospital bills from both Zamboanga City Medical Centre and Zamboanga Doctor's Hospital. He has stabilised and has been recently discharged home. However, this is just the start of his long medical journey towards full recovery and rehabilitation.
Kuya Ryan has been sent home to await medical clearance in preparation for spinal surgery. He requires a full-time caregiver to help with his daily needs as he is non-ambulant and an ongoing regular attendance from a physiotherapist. He also requires more diagnostics in a few weeks' time and once he is medically cleared and strong enough, he will undergo spinal implant surgery - with an estimated 350,000php (€5,000-5500) for the metal plate implant, alone - by end of this month (October) or early next month (November).
During this time, Kuya Ryan, will have no income as he is unable to work and living expenses and medical expenses (including medications) are expected to increase. Our family is exhausting efforts to gather financial assistance and together with your generosity and help, we hope to help cover the following expenses:
1. Daily caregiving and home recovery needs including physio attendance
2. Medicines and follow-up check ups and diagnostics
3. Spinal metal plate implant surgery and hospitalisation
Kuya Ryan is single and has dedicated his career in serving the public as a healthcare worker (both as a nurse and as an EMT). He is also the main carer to our ageing mother, who also struggles with her own health and mobility. Every donation - big or small - brings our family closer to overcoming this financial hurdle and giving Kuya Ryan the chance to walk again and live his life to the fullest
Because GoFundMe does not support direct transfers to the Philippines, donations will go to my account here in Ireland and I will ensure that the funds will be forwarded to Kuya Ryan's bank account in the Philippines to cover for his surgery and hospitalisation, caregiving needs and recovery costs.
Kindly consider donating and/or sharing this fundraising campaign to help my big brother, Kuya Ryan, get the medical attention and treatment he urgently needs to be able to walk again.
Your kindness, generosity and prayers mean the world to him and to our family and friends, who love him dearly.
Thank you so much and we appreciate all your help. God bless us all.
