Matt and Karen Monahan’s oldest son Dana, was in a terrible car accident on August 13th. God graciously spared Dana’s life, his injuries were extensive. He suffered a ruptured spleen which had to be removed, a partially collapsed lung, many broken bones (pelvis, ribs, ankle, and collar bone), internal bleeding, and head trauma. Anyone who saw the car or worked to save Dana’s life agrees that he needed a miracle.
If you have kept up with Karen's FB updates you will know that Dana and their family have been through a trial that would test the strongest of us. Their reliance on God for mercy and healing is a testimony to all who know them or have met them along this journey. Many friends have shown their support through acts of service, words of kindness, and even financial gifts, all of which Matt and Karen humbly receive and deeply appreciate.
Dana has a long road ahead of him on his recovery journey. We are setting up this GoFundMe in the hopes that friends can rally around Matt, Karen, Dana, Janie, Clara, Jonathan and Josie. Let's work together to take the financial burden off of Matt and Karen so that they can focus on giving their family all of their time, energy and emotions rather than worrying about how medical bills will be paid.
Several folks have been asking how they can help or where they can give.
Please consider making a donation, here are a few things that your gift will cover.
1. Medical bills $12,000-$20,000
Matt and Karen anticipate having to cover their deductible of $6,000 plus any addition cost share up to their out-of-pocket max of $10,000. That deductible and out-of-pocket max reset soon after Dana's accident so it is possible that their deductible and out-of-pocket max will have to be met twice depending on the timing.
2. Car replacement $2,500
The car that Dana was driving is the family car used to get kids to school and back each day and it will need to be replaced.
3. Unexpected expenses that come along with extended physical therapy and doctors appointments.
