The story so far.
I'm so sorry it's been insane. She has achalasia. It's when the muscles in your esophagus prevent food and water going in and out to your stomach. So, it would cause her to choke. She wasn't diagnosed till last July when she was in the hospital for a spleen rupture caused by a colonoscopy.
Last Friday she had a surgery called the Heller Myotome. It's a rare surgery where they cut the lower muscle in her esophagus allowing her to eat and drink without choking. She was recovering ok till about Wednesday/Thursday. She started vomiting blood and game into the ER.
After a long horrible experience and treatment in the ER they found she had some fluid in his abdomen but was unable to determine if she had a hole anywhere. She went into emergency surgery on Friday night. They discovered that she had a hematoma, sepsis, and a tear in her esophagus where they cut it. Luckily the sepsis was contained in one area and did not spread throughout her body. They cleaned her out, and closed the tear in her esophagus.
Nothing comes easy for our mom. Turns out the wall of the esophagus was really thin and they're not sure if it will hold. She doesn't qualify for an esophageal shunt. So, she's in the hospital for 10-14 days with drains and and being fed through a pict line. She's weak and in a-lot of pain.
Although, all signs point to her being stable it does not mean she's out of the woods.
She won't be able to return to work for some time. If this closure doesn't hold she'll need an additional two other major surgeries and months of recovery.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. This will be going towards any bills that she needs covered. Medical and utility.
Thank you,
Amber & Sammy
