Just before my niece Mia’s 5th birthday, her parents, Colleen and Leandro, received the devastating news that she was diagnosed with Osteosarcoma, an aggressive and rare bone cancer.  This heartbreaking diagnosis is even more painful because she already battled and defeated a rare eye cancer, retinoblastoma,  as a baby.  As our family is in the process of absorbing this information, we have many important decisions to make and we are acutely aware that time is of the essence and the road ahead will be long.  

Mia is a very happy, spirited and fun-loving little girl who has already faced so much in her young life and yet she never complains and always has a smile. 

We are doing our best to surround Mia with love and positivity as she is currently undergoing intense chemotherapy and will need multiple surgeries in the near future. 

Her case is very rare and will require ongoing complex treatment.  The coming weeks and months will be some of the hardest times that she and her parents will ever face. 

Despite their reluctance to ask for help, Colleen and Leandro will most certainly need our love, support, and prayers as they seek the best care for Mia. 

The past year has been challenging for everyone and so it is difficult to ask for financial support knowing that many are struggling.  If a monetary contribution is beyond your means, there are other ways to help. Supportive thoughts and words and most importantly prayers are so appreciated!

The goal of this page is to offer Colleen, Leandro and Mia  peace and comfort through the reminder that they are surrounded by a caring community and many people who love and support them.
