Hi, my name is Owen Graham. I’m a police officer from Jamaica who suffered a T10 complete spinal cord injury whilst on duty in December 2019. That injury left me paralyzed from the chest down and it has completely changed my life negatively.
Since then, I’ve fought hard to stay active and independent. I’ve returned to work, stayed positive, and remained committed to building a future with my fiancée. But getting around every day is still a major challenge.
Right now, I rely on a used, worn-down wheelchair that no longer supports me properly. It’s uncomfortable, hard to maneuver, and it affects my posture that causes extra pressure on the spine, health wise for example the high risk of pressure sores, and freedom, the inability to operate smoothly.
I’m raising funds to buy a lightweight, custom-fit rigid wheelchair that’s built for long-term use — something strong, reliable, and suited to my daily needs. This chair would mean:
- Better comfort to avoid pressure sores.
- Lower risk of shoulder injury.
- Custom fit = Better posture & stability.
- Safer movement indoors and outdoors
- Greater independence to work, travel, and live life fully.
- With a lighter frame, to transport will be much easier.
- Energy efficient - This is crucial for a T10 SCI user who relies entirely on upper body movement for mobility.
I’m reaching out to ask for your help — whether it’s donating, sharing this page, or just sending words of encouragement. Every bit brings me closer to better health, mobility, and quality of life.
Note: Since I’m based in Jamaica and GoFundMe doesn’t allow direct withdrawals here, I’ve added a trusted beneficiary in the U.S. to handle the funds on my behalf. All donations still go toward helping me, and I’ll receive every dollar through them.
Thank you so much for reading my story and for standing with me.
With gratitude,
Owen Graham
