Help bring Frankie home
Hi, my name is Jess and after listening to a good friend of mine, Tash's story of how she has been separated from her pup Frankie, I wanted to do something to help. So i've started this page to see if there are enough animal lovers out there, to help fund the hefty bill of flying Frankie to Australia, to be with her mama.
A bit of background for you.
Tash is an Aussie who had been living in the US for a long time now, fostering rescue dogs to fulfil her love of one day, having her very own fur-child, and working as a PT (seriously, you should see her body. Like, shut up).
In November 2019, the time finally came, and Frankie, a Maltese toy poodle came into her life. It was love at first woof.
With all her rescue experience , she knew a fur baby would not only be a time commitment but also a financial one, but her job was stable, her home was secure and her heart was ready.
Then covid hit.
At first, the two week shut down meant more time to bond and play with Frankie, as she settled into the New York lifestyle. But when two weeks turned to a month which turned into a global pandemic and total lockdown with no light to be seen, things took a turn for the worse.
Like many people, this meant her job was on hold, her income was insecure and she started to deal with the throes of low grade depression being caught up in her small NYC apartment for nearly 8 months. She was just so thankful that she wasn't alone. Frankie was always there to get her out of bed everyday.
Due to economic instability and city shutdowns, she started to lose more clients, her income was decreased and the difficulty of living in NYC at that time started to take hold. Not only was covid a threat, and being indoors 24/7 was especially isolating but it also was a particularly volatile political year, racial conflict began to rear its head as the black lives matter movement was gaining momentum and the reality offing an expat in a country that doesn’t even look after its citizens meant stress and emotional health took a greater toll.
Through much hesitation and against her initial will, she decided it was best to move back to Australia. But the heart break that came with that decision was she needed to leave Frankie behind because she couldn’t afford the $10k price tag that came with transporting a dog across the globe. Especially as the Australian government was enforcing a mandatory $3k quarantine when she arrived.
This is where we come in. If you can spare $10, $20, jeez, anything really, let's see if we can help get Frankie and Tash back together. Because at the end of the day, in times like this, love is all we need.
Big love to you all,
Jess
