Hello.

My name is Joanne Delaney and I am the wife of Christian Halverson.

You may know my husband as the very outgoing Restaurant Manager at Salt Restaurant in Hotel LBI formerly of Park West Tavern in Ridgewood NJ, Romano’s Macaroni Grill and many others….

You may know him because you have a Squirrelwood Creations - unique one of a kind handcrafted wood piece in your home or business

You may know him because of marbles, a knives or sea glass

You may have met him in a car club

Or just know him as Father, Step-Father, Brother, Uncle, or Friend....................

He is the guy that I affectionately call the “Mayor” because he literally talks to anyone and everyone –

To me he is my husband, best friend, and my soul mate

who as I write this story - is a patient at Jersey Shore Medical Center in Neptune undergoing surgery for Cancer today ..................................

I have to say that we are both stunned – life now feels like a living nightmare

Everyone has asked “what happened” – “I just saw him and he was fine”…………………….

So this is what happened –

Christian thought that he had a bump, lump, boil, etc. near his groin. His pain began to become unbearable and went to the ER (Hospital).
Once there – he was sent home with antibiotics and told that the bump was a cyst and that he would be okay in about 24 hours. (that didn’t happen)
As it turns out – less than 24 hours later Christian asked me to drive him back to the ER which I did – I dropped him off and began to wait for his pick-up call.
That call never came instead he called to say that he was being taken by ambulance to Jersey Shore Medical Center for emergency surgery due to fast moving flesh eating bacteria.

I know that you are saying “what”?! and so did we.

We are being told now that Christian is “lucky:
His Doctor has told him that 40% of people do not survive a bout with this infection.

Lucky because he didn’t have to have any body parts amputated

BUT if you knew the amount of necrotic skin that had to be removed from his body you would not think him lucky at all.

Despite his extremely positive attitude and continued Facebook posts in one fell swoop my husband was debilitated.

Are we both grateful that he is alive? Yes.

But this “flesh eating bacteria” is the stuff of nightmares………………….and so was the treatment and its ongoing aftermath.

We now know that Christian has Colon cancer……
And we are presently hoping and praying that they are able to remove all of it today and that the colon remains the only place that the Doctors find it.

We are not sure what the next steps will be - we do not expect that Christian will be able to work any time soon.
He will not be home for any of the upcoming Holidays as the healing process from the first surgery will take until the end of the year and the wound is open so it requires professional medical care and an absolute sterile environment.

Honestly, I just keep praying............

So, it is with great humility that I start this Go Fund Me for Christian.

Any funds will go toward directly toward medical expenses –

If you are able donate; we thank you and we are very grateful.

((We do understand that times are tough for everyone so if you are not able to donate – we totally understand. ))

At this time and lastly - I would like to thank everyone who has been supporting my Husband every day with encouraging calls, texts and comments on his posts.

We thank you all who have prayed and who continue to pray.

Thank you in advance for taking the time to read this story.

Respectfully & Sincerely
Joanne Delaney (Halverson)
