Hi my name is Shawna or as people in my hometown of Pittsburgh know me as… the dobermom.

I have 4 dobermans, Harley (5), Movado (4), Valentina (2) and Eri (7 months). Valentina and Eri I have adopted.. Eri I just took in this past month.

Although all my babies are amazing, out of all of them, everyone seems to be drawn to Harley.

This is because Harley is a special boy and anyone that has met him knows that about him.. He has turned people that are fearful of big dogs into big dog lovers. He has captured the heart of all who have met him since he was brought home to me just 5 short years ago.. Harley was my gift to myself to help me get over the pain of the miscarriage of the first child I conceived in my marriage. He has been by my side through the divorce after our marriage fell apart due to the miscarriage… the loss of my pap… several heartbreaks and many other things…

Harley has a special gift of recognizing pain, whether it be emotional or physical and comforting the hurting.. Because of this gift he became an ESA… This year we were in hopes of starting him with visitation in nursing homes and children’s hospitals to bring peace and happiness to the sick and elderly; however, we have hit a terrible bump in our road..

At 7 months old Harley got into the trash and ate an ear of corn which caused a blockage in his intestines while we were on vacation in Florida.. When a dog gets a blockage they are very susceptible to more due to adhesions and scar tissue.. He has made it through 2 operations but his adhesions have caused another blockage and it is not any fault of his own.. This blockage is life threatening and it needs several days of medical attention. This is Harleys last chance at a normal life by getting the adhesions out of the way, additionally his eating and lifestyle will have to change..

We tried to save money by taking Harley to our primary vet who told us that the procedure was not possible to safely be done due to the equipment necessary and because of where the blockage is located which is right next to his diaphragm.. Right now I am struggling with the financial burden of the surgery and I have no choice but to ask for help for Harleys last chance..

Harley is only 5 and has so much more life to give, he is such a fighter and is currently stabilized and on his way back to the ER for several procedures over the next few days.
