Right now she is doing okay, not feeling sick, her only symptoms are enlarged lymph nodes all over her body and a little tired.
We met with a veterinary oncologist and below is her recommended course of treatment:
(CHOP) chemotherapy: This protocol consists of 3 chemotherapy drugs (vincristine, cyclophosphamide, and doxorubicin) and a steroid (prednisone). The chemotherapy drugs must be administered at a veterinary hospital and are given in a rotatingcycle weekly, for the first 9 weeks, and then every other week for the remainder of approximately 6 months (25 weeks). Prednisone is given orally at home in a tapering fashion for approximately 30 days of the chemotherapy protocol. (MST =12 months for B cell) Chemotherapy treatments will be about $400-700/ treatment
with a total cost of about $6000 for the entire protocol.
My main goal is for Sophie not to be in pain or sick as she goes through treatment. The Vet assured me that Chemo for dogs is much different than Chemo for humans. They give them just enough to put them in remission and hope that they can stay in remission for a year or two (which is a long time in a dogs lifespan)Sophie will be treated at Blue Pearl Clinic in Eden Prairie, Minnesota.
