Rachel’s Rally

Have you ever spoken with a person and instantly felt refreshed and encouraged?
Rachel Harris is that person for me.
She speaks truth into the air, claiming things into existence, vocalizing her gigantic faith.  Her gentle approach to life and to others is inspiring.
July brought a whirlwind to the Harris house.  Rachel had a fever well over 103° and her heart rate rose dangerously high.  Being a cardiac patient, the doctors were very careful to treat her unexplained infection as we all prayed for her heart to be protected from whatever was going on.  Praises, her heart was fine!

The next day, her body took on another unknown infection that resembled Bell's Palsy as the entire right side of her body was affected.  She described it as severe pins and needles with outward effects similar to a stroke.  Doctors treated her for the next 5-6 weeks and started physical therapy.

Unfortunately, the therapy didn't stop the constant nerve pain.  All day, every day, she was in too much pain to move by herself, which made her weaker and weaker.  She still attended sessions with her physical therapist but would take a couple of days to recover enough to be out of bed.  We would make a couple of visits here and there to catch Jeremy (Rachel's husband) after doing yard work for extra money and try to encourage him.  He smiled and voiced how he adores Rachel and kept reminding us and himself that she will be healed and things will get better.

Fast forward to Friday, September 14th: Rachel's Birthday.  Rachel and Jeremy's youngest daughter (8 years old), Rebecca Joy, was admitted to Cook's ER after fever, sore throat and congestion caused her to not be able to breathe on her own.  She was intubated and treated for three different infections and two viruses.  While she was driven to the hospital, Rachel and I had a good laugh about her grabbing her cane and pillow and pulling up a hospital bed next to Becca Joy.  Rachel's spirit remained positive and resolved.  They are going to be okay.

Becca Joy was dismissed from ICU and after a few days in the hospital, she was released when she could breathe on her own.  I visited them the day Becca was brought in to give Rachel some vegan birthday cake (!!!) and was able to witness more of their unshakable faith.  Truly inspiring to see them claim their trials as intercessors for the Lord's glory once she is fully healed.

Rachel was able to meet with a neurologist that found a probable cause for her issues.  Her brain is having "mini seizures".  Now, she is undergoing multiple tests to monitor how often the seizures are occurring, how long they last, and what is happening to the arteries in her brain.

When I ask how she is feeling day to day, her responses have been the following:
"So very weak and exhausted."
"I'm trusting and resting in Jesus."
"Some days are better than others."
"I believe God will restore my strength and relief."

We've had so many loved ones and work friends help the family with school supplies for all 3 girls in August, groceries, dinner, lunches, rides for the girls...the list goes on.

I've been asked to start a GoFundMe so we can all keep up with Rachel's progress and give funds as you feel the need to.  Obviously, the medical bills will be sky high alone, but Rachel has also been out of work since the 2nd week of July and FMLA is now expired.

Did this story touch your heart?  If so, in their minds, this is all worth it because you will have witnessed their faith and give glory to God.  Please send them your prayers and your happy thoughts by name:
Jeremy & Rachel Harris
Kaitlyn, Jessica, & Rebecca Joy
Please reach out to Amanda for other ways to give, specific requests, their address for words of encouragement, etc.

They continue to forge on through all of this in high anticipation and knowledge she will be healed In Jesus' Name!  Amen!
