Emergency Surgery - No Insurance

Donation protected

Hello everyone,

As my story of a couple of weeks ago went...

"Hi everyone, been quite a week for me. So I thought I would fill you in on this one ... the kids were doing great and we did a little bit to start another garden this weekend. Did work on a couple of business projects and had some fun recording.

Then last night I felt a little bit of pain in my stomach and thought maybe it was something I ate that was bad. Well, I went home that night (Sunday) and thought I will be better in the morning and I sort of was, but not completely. As Monday progressed the pain moved to the bottom of my belly and to (yes you guessed it) right-hand side.

About 4:30p on Monday I excuse myself from a meeting and drive to Seton SW. I had been doing a little diagnosis on the web and was pretty sure it was 1.) A kidney stone. or..... 2.) an appendix that was not doing too well. Most ERs these days are pretty quiet these days, so I got in and was quickly answering questions for the attending Doc. I said It might be a kidney stone, but I am pretty sure it's an appendicitis attack. Tests, blood, CT scan - Yup I was right, and I was not going home that night.

The Surgeon is summoned for the morning and my white count and the CT say it's going to be removed right away ...

So yeah it was "acute" which is right next to rupture in the book of severity. So quickly in and Laparoscopically it is removed... spent the rest of the week with lovely people at Seton SW and am now home ... my first surgery not performed by my long-gone father on the kitchen table ever."

Well, the bills are here, and while I'm glad to be well and got excellent care at Seton SW, they are expensive. Especially when you don't have insurance. At present, I get only unemployment as a source of income, so this is quite a big deal in my world.  During Covid-19 all of us are suffering and I know this is a lot to ask, but if you could this will be a huge help.

To let you know, I have taken measures to get these bills to their minimum, and HAAM (as usual) has been very helpful. I can remember years ago in the Austin Music Scene (prior to SIMS and HAAM) that we played health benefits for people virtually every week and sometimes more than that. Our infrastructure with HAAM and SIMS is worlds ahead of other artistic communities.

I come to this as a last resort. I will not go on about our current health care system because they possibly saved my life. And I might add that Dr. Jeff Johnson does amazing work! I asked him if there might have been anything that might have caused this, and he said “…well we saw no Cancer while we were in there and really it just comes down to being unlucky….” Prognosis is good.

So, thanks everyone for reading this and helping if you can!

In good health always to you,

Scott
