TRANSCEND

TRANSCEND matters because it will be the first ever queer and trans only running event in Hackney, taking place during Pride celebrations in July 2024. A 5km and 10km distance with all abilities welcome to run or walk. Trans Pride is an important event in the LGBTQIA+ calendar as it marks a time to celebrate trans, non-binary, gender non-conforming people, to raise awareness of the discrimination faced by the trans community and to raise money for those fundraising for their gender affirming surgeries.

This running and walking event will be by and for the queer and trans community. We see this as our opportunity to shake up the way running races are organised. Traditionally running as a sport has been binary with prizes being awarded exclusively to cis men or cis women. The International Olympic Committee continues to restrict the way trans athletes compete meaning binary measuring systems unjustly isolate trans athletes. Sadly this is because of very limited research into testosterone and the impact of hormones on all bodies, not just trans bodies. This archaic measuring system will not be used in this race. Our race will welcome the entire gender spectrum and rather than isolating Trans runners in a category of their own, they will be measured alongside every other athlete.

All donations made will go towards the running costs of this event, both this year and next year. We will keep you updated of progress of the event and welcome you to come and take part or support the runners and walkers at the event.
