Ripton Elementary School is at risk of permanent closure due to the callousness of it's school board. The board has proposed to move from a 7 school model to a 3-4 school model by closing schools and forcing families to merge into other town schools. They claim that the consolidation will result in increased educational benefits and reduced expenses. In almost every consolidation case this has been proven to not be the results. However the board refuses to acknowledge this or entertain any other creative solutions to school closure. Addison County School District’s only concern is money NOT the long-term well-being of it's students. It's time for the Board to stand up for it's students and go after the State to demand that they reimagine and redefine the way in which we fund public education NOT personally attack it's student populations by closing schools because of some threshold spending number being too tight. This is not the solution to our districts problems. It is a much larger problem we all need to tackle together to provide our children with the education they deserve.
