We are raising crucial funds for a life-changing assistance dog for Malakai, Sophie’s two year old little boy, who was diagnosed with epilepsy at just six and a half months old.

Initially, he was first diagnosed with infantile spasm epilepsy, which has since evolved into focal seizures in the right frontal region of his brain.

Malakai has been isolated a lot of his life and spent a considerable amount of his short life living in hospital and having unthinkable tests done on a daily basis.

As a result of his epilepsy, Malakai’s Mum has had to stay awake most nights, watching him closely, worried about unexpected seizures or even sudden unexpected death from epilepsy. Malakai has significant medical trauma from his hospital experiences. A seizure alert dog will be life-altering for the family. The dog will alert Malakai’s mother if he experiences a seizure while he sleeps, giving them peace of mind and time for Mum to administer emergency medication. The dog will also help with positive sensory input during medical procedures. And when Malakai starts primary school, this dog will be by his side, keeping him safe wherever he goes.
