Christmas Gifts for the Homeless

Donation protected
There is a lot of poverty in my hometown of Blackpool with many vulnerable people living on the streets in the resort with little or no family or friends.

There are some great organisations who help these people with day to day struggles and also provide support to help them improve their situation.  I have been in contact with Street Life who provide help and support to homeless youngsters (18-25) and The Bridge Project at The Salvation Army who do the same for people over 25.

At Christmas they are provided with meals over the festive period which is an essential service not only to provide warmth and nourishment but to give a vital social connection at what, for many, can be the loneliest time of the year. Both of these charities provide attendees with essentials such as socks, gloves and toiletries where possible.

The first objective of my fundraising is to provide each of the 15 young people who attend Street Life on Christmas Eve with an individual pack of gifts for them to open. This will (hopefully) include a £10 voucher, some chocolates, a personal radio/mp3 player, a notebook and pen and possibly a couple of other stocking fillers. I hope to be able to spend around £20 per person.

I also hope to raise enough money to buy and wrap each of the 60 odd people who attend the meal on Christmas Day at The Salvation Army , a box of chocolates (and possibly a travel mug or something similar) each.

I also intend to contact local and national companies to see if they can contribute or offer any discounts etc to help spread the raised money that bit further. If you are, or know of a company who would like to help please get in touch via our Facebook Page .

Having spoken to both charities, it is felt that it's important that each person in the two groups receives the same items so at the moment it is monetary contributions which would help the most for my project so I can buy 15 or 60 of the same thing. Unless of course you feel you'd like to donate 15 or 60 of the same thing of course :) - that'd be great! Gift-wrap is the exception to this though. I think I'm going to need rather a lot! :D

Thank you for reading.

Even the smallest of donations would mean a lot. If you have any questions feel free to get in touch via the Facebook Page .

Both charities are providing me with a letter to show they're aware of what I'm doing, I shall provide these as soon as they arrive.

If there is any money left it will be split between two charities mentioned.
