Nicole has always wanted to have a home of her own. She saved for years, invested her money, and sold some things in order to make her dream come true. One of the things she sold was her condo that she had previously lived in for 16 years which she renovated. Finally, she had enough money to build her dream home from the ground up, taking the ideas and style from condo to put into her forever home. She put all of her belongings in storage and moved in with family. She found a builder, who came highly recommended from trusted friends. He told her he could build her house in 2-3 months. What he did was turn her dream into an ongoing nightmare that she has yet to wake up from. He was rarely available to discuss any concerns related to the project and was never on site while the home was being built. The project dragged on for several months. He bragged that he had built 6 homes that cost half million dollars in the time he started her project. When the house was 80% complete, Nicole had the house inspected. She was already highly frustrated as the builder gave very little attention to her home and never seemed to be available. The inspection revealed her home would be unlivable due to great deal of basic foundational issues, shoddy work, and was overall deemed as “deficient.” Nicole was crushed. As she tried to resolve the issues with the builder, he became even more unprofessional, ghosted her, and refused to address things that his inattention, oversight, and lack of care resulted in an unlivable home. He focused his attention on projects that generated him more income on the other side of town and treated her house as if it was a project beneath him. Nicole had exhausted all of her funds, life savings, and investments into this home. Plus, she was essentially homeless as she had lived with various friends and family while the project was ongoing. Nicole took the builder to court and was awarded a sizable settlement; he was court ordered to pay last May. However, the builder knew what was coming and decided to become a major con artist, doing things you only see in the movies. His insurance denied the claim for the settlement and he decided to “retire” last year and funneled all of his money into offshore accounts. As of now, Nicole is not able to collect the money awarded to her by the judge from last May.

Nicole’s dream has not died. She continues to live with family, has all of her belongings in storage, and is trying to still make her home livable so all of her hard work and saving would not be in vain. However, this project has become so costly that it is has broken Nicole and she feels she will never be able to turn her house into a home. She needs help raising $50k to help with the roof, driveway, gutters, blinds, screens for the window and fence. She has already spent so much money on addressing her foundation issues of her home and finishing the piping issues for her plumbing.
