A little more than seven years ago we found out that our unborn child would have to undergo open heart surgery for a condition called Tricuspid Atresia and WPW. I spent the last 2 months of my pregnancy cursing and blaming God for doing this to my child. I was yelling and cussing at God for punishing my child for what must have been my mistakes. Then on the day of Cassie’s 1st surgery I asked for forgiveness and asked him to protect and watch over Cassie for me – and he did. Cassie came through her 1st surgery with flying colors; however there were some bumpy roads along the way. Within that same year, we had to sit back and wait as Cassie endured her second open heart surgery. Not even a year old and already going on her second open heart procedure. In 2012 she had what we thought would be her last open heart surgery, her last one of a 3 step surgery process. We were assured that her WPW was gone and she would no longer need to take medication. In 2014 we found out that’s not the case and her WPW returned with 3 very scary and emotional trips to the ER, Cassie is now back on medication and might be for the rest of her life. Cassie has a scar on her chest and several on either side of her torso from the drain tubes. She is the most caring, perfect little girl a mother and father could ever ask for.
A little over a year ago we heard talk of a pacemaker, but always brushed it off as it never went further than just talk. Recently we meet with an Electro Physiologist from Arizona who indeed confirmed that Cassie would need that pacemaker sooner rather than later. She would need surgery, the pacemaker will be implanted in her abdomen and the leads attached to her heart. With this, the pacemaker will need to be replaced about every 5 to 7 years, which of course consists of more surgery. I thought the news wouldn’t hurt as much, as I’ve been expecting it, but I guess I’ve been in denial at the same time. It sucks! There’s nothing I can say as a pep talk to myself and I know in my heart that Cassie will do fine and be home soon afterwards but it still sucks. It’s not fair that my baby has to go through this yet again. Someday, down the road, I can only hope for a decade of no surgeries or less worries and great reports, but for now I just pray for strength, strength of my baby, strength of myself, strength of my husband and strength of the doctors and nurses to get us all through the days to come.
Through all of this our family and friends have come together prayed for us, taken care of our animals so we would be able to stay with Cassie and raised money. We owe so much to everyone for getting us through some of the most difficult years of our life. And thank you to everyone who’s always been there for us, with a simple, yet perfect prayer, for that kind gesture, a hug or a smile, or just that friendly word that you are thinking of us.
We are asking for that help once more to help pay for any medical expenses.
THANK YOU AND GOD BLESS
