I have been living with HIV disease since January of 1982. When I was first told I had HIV, I was also told that I only had a year to live. I witnessed the deaths of over 450 friends. I thought my death was just around the corner. I lost my first husband Donald, a triathlete from Towson State who died in my arms in August 1992. He was 28 years old. In October 1996, I married Jack and we are now in our 23rd year.
I never believed that I would live long enough to be able to have the security of my own home.I feared that my death was just around the corner. In 2000, I was able to experience the reality of that dream when Jack and I moved into our new home.
Our house became not only a safe place and refuge for us, but also a center for Interfaith groups and community activities and offer many things besides - from the location for the renaissance chorus, to movie nights, fellowship, pastoral counseling, and classes on spirituality, Kabbalah, freemasonry, meditation and Reiki healing.
I retired on February 1, 2017, but have become busier than I was before I retired. I have dedicated my life to my walk with God, my relationship to my husband, and my work in the community. I am involved locally, nationally and Internationally with HIV and aging, including not only for people older than 50, but also those who were infected with HIV perinatally. I have also been on the executive board of the Maryland Nurses and Health Professionals Union.
Due to the fact that I have crushing debt primarily from medical expenses, our home has just gone into foreclosure. If I do not raise a significant amount of cash in the next two months we will lose our home. Physically and mentally I do not think that I can survive this. I don’t know if Jack can either due to his back.
I’m absolutely terrified. Some might think I’m crazy for putting this on GoFundMe, but many others said God can use this as a means of saving our home.
Not only do I have AIDS, but also chronic pancreatitis, diabetes, coronary artery disease, kidney disease, liver disease, GERD, asthma, TIAs, and Parkinson’s.
Please pray for us. And if you are able, consider donating to us. Thank you so much! And please pass on this GoFundMe page as well.
