My name is Ben Janacek and I am currently a Life Scout in Troop 825 located in Houston, Texas. I am working on my Eagle Scout Project which is the community service project that is required to achieve the rank of Eagle Scout. My Eagle Scout project will be a memorial bench for John Thompson and I plan to finish it in the next few weeks.
A few years ago, John Thompson passed away due to a car accident. When he passed, the Memorial area community lost an outstanding and amazing part of itself. John was a Frostwood Tiger, Memorial Eagle, and Memorial Mustang graduate. At MMS and MHS he found his passions in singing and dancing. He took part in the MHS Theatre and Choir. At MMS and MHS he was in every play and his senior year even starred as Curly in the musical, Oklahoma. In college, he majored in marketing and finance, graduating from the University of Houston. John loved helping others. He would always cheer people up and had a way of making others laugh. John dwelled on the positives in life and was a great role model for the ones who looked up to him.
My Eagle Project will consist of a concrete slab and metal bench with a plaque on it. It will be located at Frostwood Elementary to the left of the entrance of the school as you are facing the front office. To start the process, a group of volunteers and I will pour a concrete slab, level off the surface, and shape the sides, making the slab look very professional. Then we will wait a few days for the concrete to dry and drill on the bench. This will complete the Memorial Bench Project.
My goal is to raise $1,500. The money will help buy supplies, tools, and materials for the project such as lumber, concrete mix, the bench, and more. Any donation amount would be greatly appreciated. This bench will be placed on the Frostwood Elementary campus, outside of his mother's window where Mrs. Thompson is a well loved counselor. I hope you will help me fund this project so the memory of John Thompson will live on for not only his mother, but for others who will use the bench to read a book, enjoy nature, or just rest.
