Help Lisa Get To Were She Needs To Go
Meet Lisa. Lisa is my sister. She has cerebral palsy. She cannot speak or move on her own. She requires round the clock caregiving. My name is Valerie. I am Lisa's caregiver and sister. Lisa has been with me for two years. My mother cared for Lisa at home for the last 56 years! It was time to give mom a break.
Lisa lived in Denver all her life where there is incredible public transportation for the disabled. She was able to go out into the community to attend events and go shopping (her favorite) along with medical appointments. After moving to our small town two years ago we found that transportation is extremely limited and with covid, like everywhere else, we rarely went out. During this time, Lisa became lethargic and uninterested in her surroundings. We worried about her health. When we were able to visit with family we noticed that she became animated with those around her.
Socialization keeps Lisa engaged. It is necessary for her health. Now that our family is vaccinated we I would like to be able to visit them more often. Lisa requires a lift to transfer her into and out of the car from her wheelchair. Our dream would be a wheelchair van but that is not within out budget.
Most importantly having a lift would enable us to take her to the hospital during emergencies. We have had to call the paramedics numerous times because we were unable to take her in the car. Most of these incidences were emergent but not life threatening.
To get Lisa on the road requires a lift, a hitch and carrier for her wheelchair. We have done our research and found a lift that would fit our car.
Our estimates are below:
Milford Person Lift $5500 (lift and installation) https://youtu.be/BZQI8emCS2c
Sling $200 (which wraps around Lisa to transfer her)
Hitch $250
Wheelchair Carrier $200 - $500
