Competing in an Ironman is one of my lifetime goals, but can be rather expensive. However, since Ironman has partnered up the the Multiple Myeloma Reasearch Foundation, they have allowed for a discounted entry fee as long as you make the commitment to help raise $5000 for the funding toward helping find a cure for Multiple Myeloma, a fatal blood cancer. I am also trying to bring more awareness to the devastating effects cancer can have on both the individual and their friends and family.
Cancer is a very near and important aspect in my life, having lost a family member to ovarian cancer, and know several of my close friends who have family members going through, or gone through, the same fight.
Again, the $5000 goal listed here is for the Multiple Myeloma Research Foundation, but anything extra I can manage to raise will be donated to other great causes such as Relay for Life (another cancer awareness and prevention program) and Saint Judes Children's Hospital.
A little bit can go a long way, and living in a place with such a great sense of communtiy, I know we will be able to surpass this goal and help so many people in need of cancer treatment.
