Carlos Alberto Sepúlveda López was born on February 21, 1971 and is currently 54 years old. He worked as a blacksmith until his health was seriously affected.

In October 2024 he began to present vision loss. A month later, he went to the ophthalmologist, who, finding no visible problems in his eyes, referred him to the emergency room to perform a CT scan. The examination revealed the presence of a brain tumor located in the front of the skull. As a result of this, Mr. Carlos was immediately hospitalized, waiting for an operation.

He spent a month and a half hospitalized until, on December 27, 2024, he was operated on in an operation that lasted approximately 9 hours, managing to extract only 40% of the tumor. However, on December 31 he had to be operated on again due to an accumulation of clots in the right hemisphere of the brain. The second surgery was successful, but Carlos was admitted to intensive care, where he remained for three months. During that time, he underwent a tracheostomy due to two respiratory infections, and in addition, he suffered a pulmonary collapse accidentally caused by a catheter misplaced by a doctor.

During this period, he was sedated, unable to speak or move due to the severity of his condition. Doctors indicated that he could lose the mobility of the right side of his body and his memory. After three months in intensive care, he managed to overcome the infections and was transferred to the general ward, being discharged three days later. However, the situation did not end there.

The results of the tumor biopsy resulted in a poorly differentiated diagnosis of carcinoma, which required additional immunohistochemical studies to determine whether it was a metastasis or a primary tumor. Finally, he was diagnosed with poorly differentiated unresectable sinonasal carcinoma with involvement of the central nervous system, and was referred to the Oncology Institute to initiate treatment with chemotherapy and radiotherapy.

Carlos is a father and head of the family. He lives with his wife and his university daughter, who do not work. He was the main livelihood of the household, but due to his illness he has been left with a disability that prevents him from exercising any work.

He has five children: two aged 31 and 28, who have already formed their own families; a 21-year-old daughter who is attending university studies; a 15-year-old teenager in school; and a 10-year-old boy also in school.

The family's economic situation is critical. expenses continue at the Oncological Institute for chemotherapy and radiotherapy sessions.

En octubre de 2024 comenzó a presentar pérdida de la visión. Un mes después, acudió al oftalmólogo, quien, al no encontrar problemas visibles en sus ojos, lo refirió a urgencias para realizarle una tomografía (CAT). El examen reveló la presencia de un tumor cerebral localizado en la parte frontal del cráneo. A raíz de esto, el señor Carlos fue hospitalizado de inmediato, en espera de una operación.

Pasó un mes y medio internado hasta que, el 27 de diciembre de 2024, fue intervenido quirúrgicamente en una operación que duró aproximadamente 9 horas, logrando extraer solo el 40% del tumor. Sin embargo, el 31 de diciembre tuvo que ser operado nuevamente debido a una acumulación de coágulos en el hemisferio derecho del cerebro. La segunda cirugía fue exitosa, pero Carlos fue ingresado a cuidados intensivos, donde permaneció tres meses. Durante ese tiempo, se le realizó una traqueostomía debido a dos infecciones respiratorias, y además, sufrió un colapso pulmonar causado accidentalmente por un catéter mal colocado por un médico.

Durante este período, estuvo sedado, sin poder hablar ni moverse debido a la gravedad de su estado. Los médicos indicaron que podría perder la movilidad del lado derecho de su cuerpo y su memoria. Tras tres meses en cuidados intensivos, logró superar las infecciones y fue trasladado a sala general, siendo dado de alta tres días después. Sin embargo, la situación no terminó ahí.

Los resultados de la biopsia del tumor arrojaron un diagnóstico de carcinoma pobremente diferenciado, lo cual requirió estudios adicionales de inmunohistoquímica para determinar si se trataba de una metástasis o un tumor primario. Finalmente, fue diagnosticado con carcinoma sinonasal pobremente diferenciado irresecable con afectación del sistema nervioso central, y fue referido al Instituto Oncológico para iniciar tratamiento con quimioterapia y radioterapia.

Carlos es padre y cabeza de familia. Vive con su esposa y su hija universitaria, quienes no trabajan. Él era el principal sustento del hogar, pero debido a su enfermedad ha quedado con una discapacidad que le impide ejercer cualquier labor.

Tiene cinco hijos: dos mayores de 31 y 28 años, que ya formaron sus propias familias; una hija de 21 años que cursa estudios universitarios; una adolescente de 15 años en la escuela; y un niño de 10 años también en etapa escolar.

La situación económica de la familia es crítica. continúan los gastos en el Instituto Oncológico por las sesiones de quimioterapia y radioterapia.
