Very kind-hearted friends who have risked and given so much to others have now fallen on hard times themselves. Please read their story and words below and please donate whatever you can. Any amount makes a big difference!
"Many of you know me through campaigns like #ErasingTheHate and my work with covering up hate and gang tattoos for free, helping people leave extremist groups, my numerous speaking engagements, or my work with organizations like the Simon Wiesenthal Center, StandWithUs, NAACP and others. Or maybe you know me for my work with my former non-profit organization CHANGE and our Share a Meal pledge or our food drives. Most of this work was voluntary.
For years my wife and I have been a helping hand to those who couldn't help themselves. Today we are the ones that have to ask for help.
After surviving the Covid pandemic it was the kidnapping of my wife that left her physically but not psychologically unharmed. We both spent numerous hours in therapy and she and I still suffer from PTSD which left me not being able to work in the research position I had.
Besides taking any work I could get, refinancing the house and taking out several high-interest loans were the only way to pay the bills and survive. But that only worked for so long. One of the side jobs that helped keep our heads above the water was construction work, which is what went to school for, 30 years ago.
This year, the construction work almost magically picked up, but not enough to cover the financial burden we had to load on ourselves after the tragedy last year.
On the brink of losing the house and everything we own, we decided to file bankruptcy in March. Unfortunately this isn't free either and the payment plan is a steep one.
I now have to ask for help to prevent us from losing everything. We always have helped others and never liked to ask for help or money for ourselves. But today is the day we must. Anything will help and will be appreciated.
No ill feelings if you can't, but maybe you know somebody who can.
I appreciate your consideration.
I'm forever thankful."
