In August 2019 Angelica married her husband Josh. In 2020, we all know how the year started with COVID-19.
Once May 2020 came around, our family got blindsided with the news that my (Nani) Angelica had been diagnosed with Multiple Myeloma.
None of the family on either side has ever had this so we were all very surprised, and extremely concerned.
Multiple Myeloma is a cancer that forms in the bone marrow specifically in the plasma cells, (which can potentially turn into myeloma cells)
It was so challenging for Angelica. Normally when a patient has cancer and gets diagnosed, they can get treated with Chemo right away.
Unfortunately the Myeloma had already started affecting her kidneys, giving early signs of potential failure. So the doctors only choice was to get her going on dialysis, since her kidneys were not functioning properly. She has been on dialysis ever since.
Josh, her husband is a photographer, and owns a photography business, but due to safety concerns with COVID-19, he really hasn't had any jobs for fear of getting Angelica sick since she has no immunity. It's not worth the risk.
So he has not been working really at all, and my (Nani) Angelica obviously cannot work given her condition. Needless to say it has been a very difficult journey for Angelica and Josh. Josh has truly been an angel, by her side the whole time taking care of her.
As she continues to battle with this, she is at a point now where she is going into some intensive chemotherapy, treatments, along with radiation. She is going to begin the plasma cell transplant here soon after the 2-3 week preparation. The doctors said the process will be about a 4 month process, potentially longer if necessary.
Josh will be there to assist her throughout the whole process, however neither of them are working, making it difficult to survive. Especially with all these medical treatments, expenses, medication, chemo sessions, deductibles. They are planning on driving back and forth daily from Goodyear to Mesa for the next 4 months which is a 45-1hour trip each way, because they cannot currently afford an extended stay with no income coming in. We initially thought they could just stay out here with family. But It's recommended by the doctors that she and Josh don't stay with family, cause that can be more risky, especially with everyone going out to work and or school and coming home. Potentially exposing Angelica to a virus, or bacteria entering her system.
What the funds will help with:
-Chemo treatment
-Medical bills
-Deductibles
-Items not covered by the insurance
-Lodging so my poor aunt doesn't have to drive clear across town, right after chemo treatments, feeling nauseous, and weak.
- Food - Her doctors have given her a strict diet and food options will be very limited. The items that will be needed could be very expensive due to her medical restrictions. She is not allowed to eat out at all, everything she eats needs to be homemade cooked by Josh, ensuring it's safe due to her lack of immunity.
-Plus any other additional expenses that arise
Angelica has always been there for everyone, and sacrificed so much for so many in their time of need.
In her adversity,
I, her nephew, am very humbly asking for you to help Angelica and Josh meet some of their medical and financial obligations, during her treatment.
If you can find in your heart to contribute, it would really allow my Aunt to focus on her getting better and not be stressed about her medical and financial obligations.
If you are not able to contribute no worries at all, please just share her story, and keep them in your prayers.
Thank you all so much!
