Assalamu Alaikum (peace be upon you) dear brothers, sisters, and friends,

Baitul Mukarram Islamic Society (BMIS) has been serving the Muslim community of Burnaby and the surrounding areas for years from our current centre at 6409 Arbroath Street, Burnaby, BC. As the community grows, so does the need for a permanent, purpose-built House of Allah where people can come together to pray, learn, and support one another.

Alhamdulillah, by the mercy of Allah (SWT), we have taken a historic step forward: BMIS has secured a commercial property at 7468 Edmonds Street in Burnaby with the intention of establishing a full-time masjid and community hub for Muslims in this region.

The Vision: More Than Just a Building

This project is about much more than walls and a roof. Our vision is to create:

A dedicated space for five daily prayers and Jumu’ah (Friday) prayers

Qur’an and Islamic studies classes for children, youth, and adults

Community programs that support families, seniors, and newcomers

Spaces for youth activities, halaqas, Ramadan iftars, and Eid celebrations

A welcoming centre where people of all backgrounds can learn about Islam

The property is approximately 7,472 square feet, strategically located in the vibrant heart of Burnaby’s Edmonds area. Our hope is that this masjid will become a beacon of faith, service, and unity for Muslims throughout British Columbia.

Project Cost & Payment Plan

The total cost of the project, including land acquisition, registration, and taxes, is $3,000,000 CAD. We are working with a structured 3-year payment plan through December 2027.

So far, with your generous support:

February 28, 2025: $150,000 paid

June 16, 2025: $100,000 paid

September 15, 2025: $100,000 paid

That is $350,000 already paid, Alhamdulillah.

Our Urgent Need Right Now

We are now approaching a critical payment milestone:

Amount Required: $400,000 CAD

To meet this deadline and keep the purchase agreement on track, we urgently need the help of our wider community. locally and globally.

A Lasting Charity (Sadaqah Jariyah)

The Prophet’s teachings remind us that when a person passes away, their deeds come to an end except for three: ongoing charity, beneficial knowledge, and a righteous child who prays for them. A masjid combines all three.

Every:

Prayer performed

Verse of Qur’an recited

Lesson taught

Heart guided

In this masjid will, insha’Allah, count as ongoing reward (sadaqah jariyah) for all who contributed towards it. The slides also remind us of the Qur’anic promise that spending in the way of Allah is like a grain that multiplies many times over in reward.
