Love For Logan

Hello family, friends, and friends of friends:

My name is Natalie Graham and I am the mother to a sweet, little boy and two step-daughters. Not unlike most parents, my husband and I want the very best for our kids and try everything in our power to make sure that they are loved, well-cared for, and safe from harm. But, you and I both know that accidents happen and that we can’t always be there, hovering over them every second of every day. Such is the case for our friends from church, Drew and Lisa Vanderkleed. They are parents of Kendra and Logan, two charming kids, full of life and energy.

On Thursday, August 17, 2017, the unthinkable happened. 2 ½ year-old, Logan somehow got his neck stuck in the window of a vehicle.  When he was discovered, he wasn't breathing.  Logan was without oxygen/pulse for a significant amount of time as family and medical personnel repeatedly gave him CPR.
And just like that, the Vanderkleeds’ world was turned upside down. Their precious little boy was not breathing on his own and was now fighting for his life. After first being taken to the local hospital by ambulance and examined, Logan was then air-lifted to Riley Children’s Hospital. He was non-responsive to numerous testing, was showing low levels of brain function, and his body was undergoing convulsions/shaking. Doctors were not optimistic based on their results and the time-frame they believed Logan had been w/o a pulse.

By early Friday morning, the prognosis looked worse. The medical team believed Logan had been w/o oxygen longer than originally thought, and the damage done to his brain to be extensive and the worse case they had ever seen. As a result, they encouraged the family to say their good-byes.

Friday afternoon arrived and with it came the first glimmers of hope and what we believe to be the result of the prayers of family, friends, churches, and strangers alike-- all lifting up little Logan to our Heavenly Father. The estimated time-frame w/o oxygen went from 40+ minutes down to more like 10. And it went from being the worse case of brain damage ever seen by the doctors, to them having seen much worse. They still cautioned the family that the area of his brain more than  likely affected the most, would be the basal ganglia, or the area responsible for his motor skills and cognitive function. Overnight, Logan’s vitals were looking better too. The medical team was now recommending that they wait 3-4 days for the swelling to go down.

As of Saturday, Logan seemed to be responding to being moved and to his feet being rubbed. The nurse also believed that he was able to hear his family due to the way he reacted to external stimuli. In addition, his breathing was sounding less labored. Only time will tell the rest.

As the days continue to come and go, only God knows what His plans are for Logan Vanderkleed.   And we are still believing for a miracle.  But we can all rest assured knowing that God holds him in the palm of His hand. Your continued love and prayers are greatly coveted by the family. With this LOVE FOR LOGAN’s Go-Fund-Me page, we are hoping to help offset as much of the financial burden for the Vanderkleed family, that a medical situation of this magnitude can mean.  Any monetary donations would be appreciated, but your prayers are needed the most. Please feel free to spread the word by sharing this post.  Logan's progress can be followed on Facebook by typing in @love4loganv.

Thank you in advance for loving on this wonderful family through your prayers, and financial support during this difficult time.
