On the evening of Sunday October 25th I received the worst phone call in my life. My dad had suffered a sudden cardiac arrest. Lucky for us my mom witnessed this and was able to start CPR immediately while waiting on EMS to arrive. My dad was then transferred to Huntsville Hospital where he underwent a cardiac cath and hypothermia treatment. Cardiologist are not 100% sure exactly what caused this to happen.
Once the hypothermia process was complete my dad was following simple commands and was later extubated off the ventilator. Two days later my dad spiked a high temp and was very lethargic. On November 1st the ICU doctor made the call to place dad back on the ventilator. At that time dad had aspirated and is now battling double pneumonia.
Today Saturday November 14th the trauma team is supposed to place a Trach and feeding tube. Doctors seem very optimistic regarding hisrecovery but he has a VERY long and difficult road ahead of him.
My dad has health insurance with a out of pocket max of 7,500. I want to help my parents even though I’m currently back home in Michigan. He will need intense inpatient physical therapy once he is ready for discharge. At this timewe do not know what his long term limitations will be but I do know we plan on walking this road to recovery with him! There is a wonderful inpatient rehab place in Birmingham Alabama that we are hoping to get him into.
The Donations raised in this fundraiser will go towards medical bills, living expenses while my mom is off work and travel expenses once he is in Birmingham (about an hour and 20 minutes drive from their house). I am hoping this will relieve a small weight off my parents shoulders making it easy to navigate the future.
