Marley's story....In April of this year I was made aware of an injured dog brought to a rescue in Thailand. It is believed someone cut her two back paws with a machete, damaging the nerve. Marley is one of thousands of "Soi dogs", Thai for street dogs, living homeless on the beaches of Phuket. Marley lived homeless on the beach for 2 years. Mike & I knew we had to bring Marley to the USA so she could receive the medical care she so desperately needed. Marley needed access to a neurologist to see if we could repair her paws and help her to walk again. In July we paid for Marley's flight here to the US and drove down to LA from Seattle to pick her up. She has been recieving care since then for her damaged feet by our amazing vet and has learned to walk and balance again despite her terrible injuries. Last week, at our routine follow-up we noticied a lump on her toe. After many biopsies and visits to our vet we found out that this amazing dog, who has been through so much...from machete injuries to cigarette burns on her face...now has cancer. Marley is only 2 years old. We want to treat her cancer as aggressively as possible because she can beat this and have an amazing life. Her cancer is called TVT and is very rare here in the US. She saw the vet yesterday and had her chemotherapy workup completed. Marley is scheduled to begin the 1st of 8 rounds of chemotherapy on Wednesday. Chemotherapy is very costly at $360 a treatment and the continued workup begins at $1300. We are hoping we can look to other animal lovers for any support they may be able to provide us. We do believe humans are good and one person can make a difference :)
Peace & Love...Heather, Mike, Marley, Saison, Peatie & Moxie.
