D. Maurice Turner passed away October 21, 2020. He was a beloved husband to Daria and father to Sydnei (24) and Zach (16).
Maurice was well known in the baseball community as he umpired SEC and travel baseball tournaments around the country. His ability to call a game and presence on the field was legendary-- in fact, he trained most of the umpires around the Atlanta area.
We first met Maurice when Zach and our son were on the same baseball team. It was evident that Maurice had not only trained umpires but especially Daria in all rules of the game. It was not only entertaining (Maurice and Daria are both very funny), but educational to sit with either one of them at a game. Maurice quickly became a household name as the awesome umpire who took the time to support our son on the mound, but also as a friend to our family. The Turner's are the type of friends you make on a sports team, yet hold dearly for a lifetime. You are lucky if your son has played baseball with Zach.
