I’m raising funds because I am very concerned for my sister, Jackie Corbin and Bill Dodds, her partner of 29 years. They are at great risk of losing their home, because they are a year behind on their mortgage payments due to serious health issues and their home is in jeopardy because it is now in foreclosure. The sale date has come up on their home for March 7, 2019 which means they have to pay all the back mortgage payments, late fees, lawyer fees and property assessment fees by March 2, 2019 or they have to vacate their home.
Bill was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease in 2017. He also has coronary artery disease (which he had a quadruple bypass in July 2016), and he has other serious health issues. Jackie is his sole caregiver.
Jackie has a brain tumor that is located in a very dangerous place and is pressing against her optic nerve and is very close to her brain stem. She is receiving radiation treatments to hopefully shrink the tumor to pull it away from the optic nerve. The neurosurgeon and radiation doctor are concerned if it continues to grow it could cause Jackie to go blind or if it hits her brainstem she would stop breathing.
Jackie and Bill‘s health issues have prevented them from being able to work. Bill was the main money earner and hasn’t been able to work since June 2016, and has just started receiving his disability check in November 2018. They had no income for 2 1/2 years. They had to spend all of their savings and all of their 401(k) to pay their mortgage and bills until the money ran out.
Jackie diligently communicated with the mortgage company and was granted a forbearance on their mortgage, which would allow them 6 to 12 months of no mortgage payments while they were dealing with their hardship and waiting for Bill’s disability to be approved. The forbearance was good through January 1, 2019, with the understanding Jackie would file an application for a modification loan. If approved, the modification loan would move all of the delinquent mortgage payments and late fees to the back of the loan and would reduce the monthly mortgage payments to a more affordable amount. In December 2018 the paperwork for modification was submitted and she was led her to believe that it would probably be approved now that she had proof of income. During this time their mortgage was sold to another mortgage servicer and in the process Jackie‘s application for the modification loan was denied stating Jackie and Bill did not have enough income.
They suggested she could try to apply for the modification with the new mortgage company once they would take over on January 7, 2019. Jackie did apply and was denied due to not enough income.
Our family has tried to help Jackie and Bill as much as we can but this has become a very huge and difficult situation and it is very overwhelming.
Jackie reached out to many local state and federal agencies and local charities for assistance, with no success.
Jackie is trying to find a job, although I don’t know how she can work with her health issues and take care of Bill and her pets and herself of course.
Jackie and Bill have lived in their home for over 14 years. It would be very difficult for them to be uprooted and have to find someplace to move to at their age, and with their health issues and their pets. They have two senior dogs and one dog that was abused in his previous home and three senior cats. It would absolutely kill Jackie to have to part with her pets in their senior years when she feels they need her the most right now and they would think she abandoned them along with her abused fur baby that only trusts her and Bill, and all the progress she has made with him to trust again will be lost. Her love for her pets is what has gotten her through the last couple of years.
We are trying to keep them in their home and have the time to try to work everything out. If they lose their home Bill will have to be put in a facility to receive care for his Alzheimer’s, the dogs and cats would be placed in a shelter all alone and they will not understand losing their home and their mommy. Jackie would have to try to find a place to go, although she said she would live in the street to keep her pets and try to take care of them so she wouldn’t have to be separated from them. They have had an extraordinary run of bad events and continue to fight, but they are running out of time. If there is any way you can donate, no amount is too small and will be a blessing. If you are not able to donate please share like crazy and send prayers and good thoughts. All will be greatly appreciated. Thank you so much!
