Update 12/17: I am updating the goal today because of some unexpected fees that were applied. If you are able to help with a donation or by sharing this campaign, I am very grateful. So far, with your help, we've been able to save 2 of the 3 units. 1 to go with 1 week left! Very appreciative for all the generosity and continued support.
This Christmas, I'm asking for your help to save 25 years of my art that is at immediate risk of being sold in Storage War style.
This Christmas, I'm asking for your help to save 25 years of my art that is at immediate risk of being sold in Storage War style.
A little background...
Things happen. If you've followed me at all you'll know that my wife Connie and I had worked out our living expenses based on two social security checks (her's and mine), and supplemental income because that's what people have to nowadays. In our case, I also received income (from the state) because I was her designated caregiver. Additionally, income came from the creation and sale of my artwork; mainly murals and decorative and faux finishes for businesses and high-end homes. An artist for hire.
Things happen. Connie had some major medical issues the past few years. Actually, she's had more than her share going back decades. And yet, we always made it work. Somehow. The difference this past year was that the cancer also took a swipe at me too. I had chemo and radiation and far too much down time without income.
Things happen. My wife had a medical crisis in early August and passed away on the 4th of that month.
Then the system works against the surviving spouse. The income from the person who has passed is immediately halted. In addition, since I was paid by the state to be Connie's caregiver, that ended too. My income is now a 1/3 of what it was just a few months ago and yet, I've still got the same expenses.
This is all background to my most pressing and threatening bill. The art I created over a lifetime is my most valuable product at this stage of my life. It is a collection of all that I didn't sell at art shows and gallery sales through the years.
It's what I turn to now for my inventory as I learn to transition to this new way of selling art online and to this new phase of my life. I know it can be done. Others do it.
Today, my collection is in three storage units which I am now locked out of due to a few months of payments I've been unable to make during this time. The storage company is now demanding payment in full or they will sell off more than twenty-five years of accumulated drawings, canvases, and sculptures that represent the first half of my art career... and my future security.
Things happen. They don't always have to be bad things. This is why I turn to you for help. I owe approximately $3000 before the 27th of December when an auction is scheduled.
I deeply appreciate anything you can do to help me and, more importantly, to preserve art.
