Helping my dad secure funds for wheelchair van

Donation protected
Hey, ya'll. My name is, Valarie. I am the only child of Stanley Gullett. There is a long story here. I will try to make it as short as possible. My dad is from Limestone County, Alabama where he did brick, block, and stone work along side his dad for 30 years. He is 51 years old and has a STBI and DAI that were sustained as of March 26, 2023. That day changed my life forever. My dad called me telling me he was on his way to my house. He never made it. I had a fist in my gut for about 20 minutes not knowing where he was because when he said he was on his way, he was on his way. If something happened, he called to let me know he was late because he knew that I worried about him due to some of his poor life choices. On his way to my house, he ended up over correcting his vehicle, flipping it between 3-5 times and landed in a horse pasture with his arm dangling by a thread. That day, my dad really just seized to exist in who I knew him to be. As I stated earlier, I knew something wasn't right. So I attempted to call him numerous times. No answer. I went straight to Facebook where I could audio call. As soon as I opened the app, there it was..... A page I followed stated -- ONE CAR MVA GLASS HOLLOW PARKER , EMS AND AIR EVAC EN ROUTE. No other information was provided. But, I knew. I panicked and called his girlfriend. She had an achy feeling too. There was a pause on the phone right before we hung up, kind of sealing the deal that we both knew that this was him without knowing that it was concretely. I grabbed up kids up, and we went to the location where I could only see the top of his truck in this field. There I collapsed. State troopers told me he wasn't breathing and there was no pulse (this turned out to be miscommunication). He had labored breathing and a pulse. They intubated him at the scene with no sedative. I waited for almost 2 hours to drive again to go to Huntsville Hospital where he remained in a non-medically induced coma for 7 days in the STICU. God, I prayed. We had our differences. But, God, I prayed. He eventually had awoken. From there it was on a progressive surgical ward for 2 months due to his arm and infection. Then rehab. Then home. Due to issues with the home he inherited, I took all of my savings to fix it so he could come back safely. We have been home since June 2023. Unfortunately, most of his sisters/brothers are older and cannot come to see him as often as they would like. There are appointments that he needs to go to over and over again like his neuro. Everytime he has to go anywhere with doctors I am having to pay upwards of $300 to take him which is not feasible when there are multiple appointments every week or two. He cannot walk by hisself or talk. He is complete dependant on us (his girlfriend and I) for everything. I hate asking for help. I've never been the one to ask for help. However, we are at our minimum. I appreciate all who can help and share my dad's story.

For a brain injury patient, having access to a vehicle is not just a matter of convenience; it can be a lifeline to vital neurology appointments. These appointments are crucial for monitoring the patient's condition, adjusting treatment plans, and addressing any emerging complications promptly. Without reliable transportation, the patient may face significant challenges in accessing specialized care, which can delay necessary interventions and potentially worsen their prognosis. A vehicle enables them to maintain regular attendance at appointments, ensuring continuity of care and maximizing their chances of recovery. Moreover, having control over their transportation empowers the patient, fostering a sense of autonomy and agency in their journey towards healing. Therefore, securing a vehicle tailored to their needs is paramount in supporting their rehabilitation and overall well-being.

God Bless.
